Chairman of the Youth Union Rupandehi Durga Tiwari

BUTWAL, Feb 27: Unveiling its investigation report on Sunday, Nepal Police backed its earlier claim that Manoj Budha Magar aka Manoj Pun is the mastermind behind the mu@rder of Durga Tiwari, the then chairman of CPN-UML's sister wing Youth Association Nepal, who was sh@ot dead in Rupandehi some two months ago.

Police said that Manoj made a plan to mu@rder Tiwari because of their political rivalry. His involvement was suspected on the day of Tiwari's mu@rder. However, Majoj has not been arrested ever after over two months of the incident.

The police made public its investigation report on the case on Sunday and made public the names of 12 individuals who were involved in the mu@rder.

Rupandehi Police has arrested seven persons for their alleged involvement in the mu@rder so far. Those arrested are Basanta Bahadur Chapagain of Devdaha-6, Buddhi Sagar Yadav and Rajesh Yadav of Tilottama-15, Khemananda Bhattarai of Tilottama-8, Sagar Thapa of Devdaha-8, Angad Tharu of Dhakdhai-8, Nawalparasi and Risheshwar Kumal of Devdaha- 9.

The arrestees were made public during a press conference on Sunday. The seven are said to be involved in bringing gun and bullets, gathering information about Tiwari and ferrying the shooter and helping him to escape.

Along with the mastermind Majoj, another planner Som Bahadur Ale and the shooter Raju are also at large. Likewise, Shyam Gurung of Gadhimai-1 and Tul Bahadur Sinjali of Devdaha-3 also have not been arrested though they were also involved in executing the mu@rder plan, according to the police.

On December 19, two motorcycle-borne assailants had opened fire at the 40-year old Tiwari in Khairani, Devdaha-6 of the district while he was heading to Butwal Municipality together with his friend Khushi Neupane.

Tiwari, who was shot at torso, was rushed to Devdaha Medical College where doctors pronounced him dead. Before his mu@rder, he was actively participating in the ongoing protests against the government's proposal to take away five hill districts of Province 5.
