Chief of Army Staff Gen Rajendra Chhetri today said the Nepali Army was fully prepared to neutralise any kind of separatist and sectarian movement and safeguard sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity.
Addressing rank and file of the Nepali Army on the eve of Army Day at army headquarters today, Gen Chhetri said some separatist and sectarian groups were threatening to raise arms and that posed a threat to social harmony.
He said the Nepali Army was always ready to neutralise activities that posed a threat to national integrity. He said the NA had accepted political changes in the country and reiterated its pledge to fight for the sake of national security.
The Nepali Army is the oldest institution of the country, which was formed by the late king Prithivi Narayan Shah prior to the unification of Nepal some two-and-a-half centuries ago.
Army Day is marked on Mahashivaratri, which is being celebrated across the country.
