CK Raut's supporters held village in Rupanedhi

Tension ran high in Marchawar, a southern village in Rupanedhi, on Saturday following sporadic clashes between supporters of CK Raut, coordinator of "Independent Madhes" campaign, and police personnel.

Police had to lob five tear gas canisters to take situation under control and rounded up 17 supporters of Raut.

Raut's supporters had gathered at Adarsha Higher Secondary School in Majgawa to protest against the arrest of the Madhesi activist.

A truck (Lu 1 Kha 4989) was also set on fire, said police.

CK Raut was arrested from Janakpur, Dhanusha district, on Feb 2. Deputy Superintendent of Police Bel Bahadur Pandey said that clashes occurred after police tried to stop the protesters from reaching the school premises. "There were around 500 people," he said.
