Congress should give an answer to the cost otherwise great

Health Minister Gagan Thapa on Wednesday said the fixed date for the local level elections (May 14) would not be deferred under any pretext.

Addressing a programme organised by Nepali Congress Madhyapur Thimi Town Committee to exchange best wishes on the occasion of Nepali New Year in Thimi, the minister said the polls could be held in two or more phases instead.

He also urged main opposition CPN-UML and Madhes-based political parties to act responsibly with regard to the polls.
Saying the polls are the main part of the successful enforcement of the new constitution, he urged them to reach consensus keeping the constitution amendment proposal registered in Parliament a focal point.

He clarified that the proposal was forwarded as the elections he said could not be successful without Madhes.
