The oldest radio station in the country, Radio Nepal (RN), is soon to launch provincial broadcast in line with the federal set up of the country. In a press conference organized by RN here today on the eve of its 67th anniversary, RN Executive Director Suresh Kumar Karki shared that well-equipped broadcasting centres would be established in all seven province and the provincial broadcast would be launched from the next fiscal year. Karki also said that discussions were held with stakeholders and listeners to restructure the organizational structure as per the provincial set up as mandated in the new constitution. Established on April 2, 1951, RN has been conducting central broadcasting 24/7 while preparations are underway for provincial broadcasting to be on air for 18 hours a day. RN has been broadcasting news bulletin in various 21 languages, including English and Sanskrit, at various timings while programmes are being broadcast in 18 languages. According to Executive Director, new transmitters are being procured for technical upgradation for widening listenership of the RN that currently spans across 83 per cent of the total population.
