Student organisations, business community, civil society leaders and general public spontaneously turned out in the streets in large numbers in Rupandehi, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Pyuthan, Palpa, Rolpa, Nawalparasi, Kapilvastu and Dang, among others districts. Leaders of various political parties, including those from the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Centre), attended the protest rallies. Protesters said they would continue their agitation until their demands were addressed.
District-level leaders of the ruling parties called on the party leadership address to immediately address local people's demands. Expressing serious concern over the centre's complete ignored their suggestion over the issue of splitting the districts from Province 5.
In Butwal, demonstrations were held at Amarpath, Buspark, BP Chowk, Jaycees Chowk, Golpark, Pushpalal Park, among other places, throughout the day in protest of the proposed split of Province 5.
The All Nepal National Free Student Union, studing wing of the main oppostion CPN-UML, organised vehicular strike in the morning. It was later turned into an indefinite banda as political parties, business community, civil society leaders joined the agitation. Transportation came to a halt along the East-West Highway and Siddhartha Highway. The educational institutions also remained shut in the distrist.
In Gulmi, leaders and cadres of major parties staged a demonstration in Tamghas in protest of government's proposal to split the district from Province 5 and merge it into Province 4. They warned of continuing the agitation unless the government withdrew the constitution amendment bill. There were also protests in Palpa and Arghakhanchi as well.
